Define exactly who you serve and why, so your marketing actually lands.
From the Branding Blueprint course, Module 2: Positioning Your Brand
Most small businesses try to appeal to everyone. The result? They appeal to no one. This worksheet helps you get specific about your niche, your industry, your field, and the exact market you serve.
By the end, you'll have a clear niche statement you can use across your website, social media bios, and marketing materials.
What broad industry does your business sit in? This is the category someone would search for on social media or Google. Think big picture.
Tip
Examples: Health & Wellness, Home Services, Fashion, Food & Beverage, Professional Services, Education, Technology
What specific field or specialisation do you work in within that industry? This narrows you down from the broad category.
Tip
Examples: If your industry is Health & Wellness, your field might be “remedial massage” or “naturopathy.” If Home Services, it might be “bathroom renovations” or “commercial plumbing.”
Who specifically are you trying to reach? Be as specific as possible , age range, location, situation, or problem they have.
Tip
Examples: “Busy mums in Brisbane aged 30-45” or “Tradies who need a website but don't know where to start” or “Small business owners spending less than $2K/month on marketing”
Now pull it all together. Fill in the blanks:
“I am in [industry] as a [field] for [target market].”
Service Business:
“I am in Home Services as a bathroom renovation specialist for homeowners in South-East Queensland who want a premium result without the premium price tag.”
Ecommerce Business:
“I am in Fashion as a sustainable activewear brand for eco-conscious women aged 25-40 who want performance gear that doesn't cost the earth, literally.”
